Gruissan
A seaside resort rich in history
Gruissan has a rich history, with its beautifully preserved old fishing village and its old harbor where fresh fish can be bought every day. The old circular village built around the famous Barberousse Tower is one of the town’s four main districts. Here, the old houses built in a circle around the tower form the historic center, with its shops, market, and Town Hall. The charm of the houses overlooking the lagoon will enchant you as soon as you arrive from Narbonne, as the first view that greets you is the old village across the lagoon.
For a unique atmosphere
Gruissan Les Chalets
Right by the sea lies another district of Gruissan: Les Chalets. Its name comes from the fact that the houses lined up along the lanes in a grid pattern resemble mountain chalets. Built of wood, they were raised on stilts because in winter this district was regularly flooded before a small dike was built along the beach.
An iconic district with a unique atmosphere, it became famous through the French film “37°2 le matin” directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix and starring Béatrice Dalle and Jean-Hugues Anglade. This district offers immediate proximity to the beach, beach bars and nearby restaurants, as well as on-site water sports activities.
Activities & Entertainment
Gruissan Port District
In the 1970s, the port district was developed. A large marina was built with many accommodations around it to host summer visitors. Around the harbor, you will find entertainment, restaurants, shops, and everything a holidaymaker could hope for when looking to enjoy evenings in a seaside resort. Near the port, you will also find the Gruissan Casino for those who enjoy slot machines, roulette, poker, or blackjack.
Close to nature
Gruissan Les Ayguades
Halfway between Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan, around the lagoons, the district of Gruissan Les Ayguades was created. Formerly made up only of campsites, small residential developments of holiday homes were later built there in the 1990s. The hamlet of Les Ayguades is appreciated by summer visitors who enjoy being close to nature. The beach is immense, the lagoons are perfect for swimming or water sports, and it is possible to set off مباشرة on a hike in the Massif de La Clape. The family residences are built between lagoon and sea, the beach is just a short walk away, and many cycle paths serve the hamlet. A shopping center at the entrance to the district provides all everyday conveniences on site.
